Two killed in train plunge
KOTA KINABALU: A normally-serene journey in interior Sabah turned into a nightmare for 41 people when a train plunged into the fast-flowing Padas River, killing two passengers.
Four others on board the two-carriage train were injured as passengers scrambled up a steep slope in the tragedy that occurred after a landslip in Kampung Pangi near Tenom, about 170km from here.
Police have identified the two dead as a local woman from Kg Melalap in Tenom and a Timorese man.
Tenom OCPD Deputy Supt Mazlan Lazim said both were believed to have drowned while trying to swim out of the train.

Oh gosh! I used that train before in Sabah, 4 years back. We hopped into this train for white water rafting at Sungai Padas after successfully conquered Mount Kinabalu.
Let me share my experience with you.
Our journey started at Beaufort Train Station and end at Pangi. As you can see at the above picture, the train is really very very old. If I’m not mistaken, the train service had started since British time.

Inside of the train station. That is the train, waiting for passengers.

Along the way, it will stop at several places. The villagers use this train as the only transportation to go to Beaufort Town. Occasionally, they were some people selling foods and drinks in the train, in traditional way. They are just the ordinary village folks who try to earn some money.

I’m still not sure the name for this ‘kuih’. Can any one identify it?

The scenery was really superb. Very serene, very green and windy.

Some wooden houses.

Get ready our gear!

When I looked at the river, I just can’t believe it. It was really ‘pedas’. The water was so rough, like going to swallow me in. Oh, before I forget to mention, Sungai Padas is 9km of grade 3 to 4 rapids.
Before we start, the guide asked us to drink some water from the river as a respect to the water spirit. I paused when I heard that. My mouth opened wide and didn’t know how to react. Finally, after someone made the first move, I quickly took some water from the river, which looked like MILO and taste it. I taste it not drink it. I can’t imagine I did that 4 years ago. Yak….kkk.kk..
We had 8 of us in one team. All of them were girls except me and the ‘strong man’ who really made us proud. He successfully ensured we stay in our raft despite the strong rapids.

After the challenging white water rafting, we headed straight to the rest place, waiting for foods and drinks. Damn hungry!

Finally, all of us made it. Bravo.

Who is the guy that you blocked? Pity him loh.
