I was in Pulau Pangkor, 2 weeks ago when I participated in my company organised treasure hunt. After the tiring hunt from Penang to Lumut, Perak, we went over to Hai Seng Hin factory to buy seafood products on the next day.
Hai Seng Hin was established as a family business way back in 1969. Over the years the company had became very famous for their seafood snacks, mainly the processed cuttlefish (kerepek sotong), satay fish, fish fillet and satay fish crisp.
It is located at Sungai Pinang Kecil where the oldest and the first stop jetty is. From the jetty, turn right and walk straight until you will reach a junction. At this junction, you will notice a small temple in the middle and along the way, there are rows of shop houses on your right and left.
Just continue walking until you reach Hai Seng Hin on your right. It is about 10 or 15 minutes walk from the jetty. The road is very narrow, just enough for a kancil to squeeze thru but the drivers in Pangkor island can make it into 2 lanes. My hat off to them.
You will not be in the wrong factory if you notice a giant octopus, just directly in front of you when you enter the factory. ![]()
Once you are there, you will be ushered into the sales department to start your shopping. ![]()
The products are hang up for you to view. I can see most of the products are very fresh. I assumed it must be directly send to them from the fisherman in the island.
You can even taste some of the seafood products over there especially the cuttlefish.
My friends and I had the opportunity to view the process of producing the satay fish and cuttlefish at the back of the factory.
Dried fishes under the sun.
I can see that they still manufacture the products in traditional way besides using the modern machines. For further details, please go to their website.
So far, most people feedback saying the seafood products from Hai Seng Hin are delicious, crunchy and fresh. Hence, the next time you are in Pulau Pangkor, drop by at Hai Seng Hin to taste their seafood snacks – the one and only the best in Malaysia, at least for me!
