UPDATED:
The moment I became a millionaire in Indonesia last month, I spent most of my money in Bandung. Why Bandung and not in Jakarta?
The only reason is because Bandung is a shopping paradise. There are a lot of factory outlets in Bandung town. You will never miss it and you should not miss it.
The traveling time from Jakarta to Bandung is about 2 hours plus drive via the highway. The highway in Indonesia looks like our highway in Malaysia. It made me felt like I was in Malaysia.
As far as I know, there are two ways to go to Bandung from Jakarta. One is to travel using the train. Some people that I met in the forums mentioned about the beautiful scenery along the way to Bandung. If you have the time and love to enjoy the scenery, you can take a train from Gambir Station near to MONAS in Central Jakarta to Bandung. Secondly, you can rent a van. You may want to check out http://rental.total.or.id/. I didn’t take any of the options that I knew because we had a driver who work under my friend’s father to take us to Bandung. That definitely saved me some money.
Prior to our departure to Jakarta, I had booked 2 rooms for my friends and I in Grand Serela which is located at Jalan Martadinata or Jalan Riau.
Along this road, you can find Termial Tas, Heritage, Men’s Wear and some few other factory outlets which I can’t remember the names. The price for one superior room is at Rp 550,000 and another deluxe room at Rp 625,000. The rate is a weekend rate and the price is inclusive of breakfast for 2. The rooms are in tip top condition and very stylish. Actually, my first choice hotel is Hotel Cemerlang but it was fully booked during the weekend I was there hence I have to opt for for Grand Serela. A bit expensive but worth it.
Below is the itinerary when I was in Bandung.
1st May
Depart to Bandung at 7.15am from Jakarta. We visited Tangkuban Perahu followed by Ciater Hot Spring and shopping at the factory outlets. Over night at Grand Sereela Hotel.
When we arrived in Bandung town, we straight away head to Tangkuban Perahu after picked up a guy who was our tour guide in Bandung. He is my friend’s father’s friend.

on the way up to Tangkuban Perahu
The crater in Tangkuban Perahu is a must see for tourist. You can even smell the sulphur.
So what can you get in the factory outlets? Is it the same as the one in Malaysia?
My answer is no. In Malaysia, you will never get a shirt of original Nike with Tiger Woods button on it for RM 25. In Malaysia, you will not get original Manchester United jacket for RM 80++. In Malaysia, you will not get a Burberry shirt for RM 30++. In Malaysia, you will not get POLO shirt for RM 70 to RM 80.
But in Bandung itself, you can get all the above for the price I mentioned. And there are other brands such as Armani, Gucci, Hugo, Giordano displayed in the factory outlets. All original.
Having said that, there are some factory outlets that sell fake one. So beware. Whenever you buy clothes or pants, please check out the label. The label is either cut across or the brand name is darken or the original price tag still intact.
Below are some of the worth mention factory outlets in Bandung.
1. Rumah Mode ( the best in Bandung and a must visit)
2. Terminal Tas ( lots of branded ladies handbag)
3. Summit
4. Heritage
5. Merdeka Outlet
6. Level FO
7. Victoria FO
One has to remember that the factory outlets in Bandung are spread all over the places. The best way to go around Bandung town is to hire a van for a day.
It is the most convenience way even though there are taxi and Angkutan ( it looks like a mini-van) to fetch you from one place to another. Rent a van and you will never regret as it is too troublesome to take taxi from one place to another place and it is too cramp inside the Angkutan for tourist like us who will have lots of shopping bags to carry around.
The food in Bandung are not as good as in Penang but I love the Baso in one of the restaurant in Bandung.

I don’t know how to describe it but I will post the picture in my next post about Baso. I hardly get good foods when I was in Bandung. Maybe there are, I don’t know. Anyone care to let me know?
Okay. Another thing that I need to inform my readers is the traffic jam in Bandung will cut short your shopping time during the weekend as a lot of Jakartans will spend their weekend in Bandung. Besides that, the roads in Bandung are narrow as Bandung is located in the central highlands. So plan your time and destination properly.
Stay tuned for more updates on Bandung. The next one is about Tangkuban Perahu.
